9-11. A day to reflect, honor and celebrate the resiliency of our nation. It’s a day to mourn those that lost their lives and be thankful to the brave men and women of New York City.
We thought we would share a few places around one of our favorite cities in the world: NYC.
The Statue of Liberty – an iconic sign of freedom and the USA. We loved taking the ferry ride over for an up-close look!
9-11 Memorial – We were in NYC in 2012 and visited this memorial which was opened to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the attacks.
Central Park – The fact that this expansive park sits within the concrete jungle is simply amazing. We love taking a stroll through when we visit the city. People watching is great here as well, tourists, locals working out, street vendors, artists, kids playing and so much more. There are many activities/stops you can make while in Central Park such as: The Zoo, Wollman Ice Skating Rink, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Strawberry Fields.
Rockefeller Plaza – There is always activity in this plaza, especially around the holidays when the massive tree is up! It is always a great spot to take some pictures.
Times Square – Although you are unlikely to find a local in sight, a stop at Times Square is obligatory during your first trip to the city, especially at night to take in the lights! It is great place to see massive advertisements on the sides of buildings, huge crowds of people and police everywhere! Next time you watch the New Year’s Eve celebration on TV, you will cringe at the amount of people jammed into that tiny space!
New York Public Library – Love walking around and admiring the architecture here! Bonus, it’s free! This is a great stop on a rainy day in the city. It’s amazing to see the beauty of this building. It was built in 1895 and it’s awesome to see how well it has held up over time. It is great craftsmanship and very clean.
The High Line – One of our new favorite spots. We love taking a stroll along the high line. The views are great and there is always a lot of activity! It’s also a great way to see the city from a different angle while getting in some exercise.
Grand Central Station– We love getting a coffee and people watching at Grand Central Terminal. The hustle and bustle of people is fun to watch – you can feel it from the pic below! The architecture creates a stunning backdrop to watch it all!
Traveler Tip from Brian: Want to feel like you are traveling back to the 1950’s or on the set of Mad Men? Head on down to the Grand Central Oyster Bar for an old fashioned and some oysters. Catch them for happy hour for even better deals.
St. Patrick’s Cathedral – When we are in the city, we try to attend mass here. The inside is breathtaking!
We’re thinking about you today New York as you remember that painful day in your history.
P.S. September 11th has another great meaning for us…..it’s Brian’s birthday! Celebrating my favorite guy today and wishing him many more!

I think most of the world will never forget 9-11.
New York is such a vibrant city with so much to see and do. I loved roaming around the different places you mentioned, but when we visited in 2007, the memorial wasn't completed. I would love to go back some day.
In 2012 there were still a couple parts under construction. We'd love to go back as well and see it fully completed and the surrounding grounds.

What a lovely way to honour the anniversary of 9/11. I haven't been to New York, but it looks so vibrant and interesting. Will have to put it on my travel bucket list.

Great way to remember that day that is going to be in our minds forever. My husband and I were talking about where we were and how we reacted to the events that day (we hadn't met yet). I like how you guys looked some time ago ;0)

I've never visited New York but I really want to go soon, I'm sure I'd love it a lot, especially wandering in Central Park or taking a stroll on the High Line :D

Happy birthday to Brian! NYC is one of my favourite places. We visited the memorial on our last trip and it was a very moving experience. I was also very moved by St Paul's Chapel - especially the stories of how it survived without even a broken window, and then became a a place that rescue and emergency personnel rested and were cared for between shifts.
Thanks for the birthday wishes! We'd love to go back as parts of the memorial were still under construction when we were there. It looks like much more of the vegetation has grown and I am sure it would be even more beautiful. I agree, learning all the stories of what happened during that time are extremely moving.
Happy Belated Birthday to Brian. We visited NYC last Thanksgiving, and you are featuring many of the highlights of my own trip. I'd wish I had a chance to visit the High Line, but it was too cold that day for this Texan.
Thanks for the Birthday wishes! We are living in Texas currently as well, layers are key traveling in those months. We think NYC is at it's best during the holiday time. There is an extra charm to the already explosive city!
