Our 5 Favorite Spots on PSU’s Campus

We were really excited to spend a couple days at our Alma Mater this week, The Pennsylvania State University!  Now that we live in Texas, we only get back at most once per year.  I am an engineer by degree and I had the honor of speaking in front of over 100 incoming women who are beginning their journeys to pursue engineering degrees as well!

If you ever find yourself in central Pennsylvania, we would highly recommend a stop at the University.  In honor of college move-in weekend, we decided to share our top 5 spots around the campus!

1. The Berkey Creamery

The Department of Food Sciences is home to the largest university creamery in the United States!  Penn State even offers a degree and courses in ice cream making.  Interesting fact – Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield of Ben & Jerry’s are both alumni who took the course!

My favorite flavor is peanut butter swirl – vanilla ice cream swirled with peanut butter.  Brian’s favorite is traditional vanilla with blue jimmies!

2. Beaver Stadium

There is no better feeling than sitting amongst 106,572 of our closest friends at Beaver Stadium!  It is the second largest stadium in the western hemisphere and third largest in the world!

Games are electrifying in the stadium and the blue band really pumps up the crowd!

3. The Lion Shrine

I could say with a high level of confidence that almost every person that has graduated from Penn State since 1942 has likely taken a photo with the lion!

The University’s mascot is the Nittany Lion.  It refers to mountain lions that were once believed to roam on Mount Nittany which is near the school.

4. Old Main

 

Near the center of campus is Old Main building.  It houses the President and other administrators.    It is a beautiful building that has been a striking part of campus since the early 1900’s.

5. “We Are” Sign

The newest addition to campus is the “We Are” sign from the Class of 2013.  The common chant among current and former students is for someone to yell “We Are…” and whoever can hear responds with “Penn State!”  It’s such a universal greeting amongst those associated with the university and it’s great to have this reminder on campus!
