“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny space you occupy in the world.”

June 14th is Flag Day in the USA. The purpose is to commemorate the adoption of the flag of the United States of America. As we celebrate flag day today, we are reflecting on all of the beautiful flags we have captured while traveling.
Capturing flags can be difficult as the wind needs to be blowing just right to get a full view. When the conditions are right and the backdrop is clean, they create beautiful shots which capture the country you are visiting!
USA – View of the American flag against Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana
Texas – Even though it’s a state and not a country, I have to say this state has the most pride of all 50 states in America. There are no shortage of spots to capture the flag and we show them in San Antonio below.
Australia – The flags that are positioned at the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge certainly create an iconic shot in Sydney. For a close up view of the massive flags, climb the bridge! We shared our bridge climb here.
Scotland – This shot was taken at the Arran Distillery on the beautiful Isle of Arran
UK – This country certainly gives ample options for flag photos. Some of our favorites were at Windsor Castle as well as The Mall in London which is across from Buckingham Palace
Ireland – The Aras an Uachtarain is the official residence of the President in Dublin. Can you guess which other iconic Presidential residence looks familiar to this?
Peru – In Lima, the Government Palace offers the perfect backdrop to capture the Peruvian Flag.
South Africa – The Castle of Good Hope offered several flags to capture in Cape Town. Another great location was the top of Table Mountain as we exited the cable car!
Greece – The Parliament Building in Athens offers a great view of the iconic flag along with a changing of the guards!
During our stay in Milos, Greece. Our hotel, Milan Suites, put flags up of all the guests that were represented at the property each day! We loved this!! Such a cool way to recognize all of the travelers that were visiting their property.
We scout out these opportunities everywhere we travel! Do you make it a point to capture the country’s flag when abroad?
