“I’m on a whiskey diet. I’ve lost three days already!”

This Whiskey Wednesday with Brian, I will be featuring: Four Roses – Single Barrel – 100 proof
I feel that Four Roses is consistently producing a high quality bourbon. I always have a good experience with Four Roses whether it be the Yellow, Small Batch, Single Barrel or the Small Batch Limited Edition. Today, I’m talking about the Single Barrel edition. This bourbon allows the drinker to see the actual barrel number of which it was produced . As you can see on the bottom right of the bottle, the barrel number on this one is 43-4A. As stated on the bottle, Four Roses uses two grain recipes and five exclusive yeast strains to distill ten uniquely different bourbon recipes, then ages each one individually in new, charred white oak barrels.
If you want, you can pick up multiple bottles over time or store locations to find bottles from different barrels/recipes. This will give you an excuse to drink more and try to determine the subtle differences between the recipes and producing barrels!
The taste: The first sniff is a sweet one with a subtle alcohol scent. The sweetness definitely shines through with this single barrel. The initial smell and taste is vanilla, then develops stronger into a brown sugar with hints of spice. All the elements begin to combine in your mouth to produce a balanced taste of many varieties. No burn with this one. Just a sweet and spicy bourbon while being smooth and delicious. A little time in the air lets the flavor profile develop. Your mouth will be savoring every drop of this delicious bourbon that dishes out a long and lingering finish.
Go pick up a bottle today for under $40 and you won’t be disappointed. If you are heading out for a night on the town, look for it in the bar and order one neat!
